3 soil - 30 years Foundation

3. Soil

Our soil is a huge reservoir of life and carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus, and is today mistreated, trampled and concreted over.

In the age of speed, and at a time when we seem endlessly to reflect on carbon emissions and storage, nothing is more pressing than to kneel on the ground and consider time and the immense power of our soils.

From tropical laterite to the black soil of Ukraine considered to be the best farmland in the world, from the rich grasses of the Normandy bocage to the sands of Australia, from the peat bogs and wetlands of the Altai Mountains to the slopes of the Himalayas, the Foundation’s adventures take root in the soil it relentlessly treads.
